Battle for Snake Island 2022

Snake Island is a small Ukrainian island located in the Black Sea. It holds strategic importance for Ukraine and Ukrainian shipping. From the very beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Snake Island became a battleground. The island was occupied by Russian forces from February 24 until June 30, 2022. The victory of the Ukrainian army and the liberation of Snake Island made it possible to unblock Ukrainian shipping in the Black Sea and helped to reduce the risk of a global grain crisis.
